Tien Giang is located in the Mekong Delta which is famous for many beautiful sites. One of which is Vinh Trang pagoda, the greatest Buddhist pagoda in Tien Giang with harmonious combination of Asian and European types of architecture.

Vinh Trang pagoda stands in the middle of My Phong village which is 3 kilometers far from My Tho city. It was built in the early 19th century; however, after seriously damaged by French colonist and a serve storm, the pagoda was restored which remains until now with so – called name “Vinh Trang Pagoda”.

As the greatest pagoda of Tien Giang province, Vinh Trang pagoda covers about 2000m2 including 5 main buildings, 2 ornamental yards and 178 pillars. There are three entrances to the pagoda. The gate in the central is always closed, while the 2 side gates, which are designed in Co Lau style, are open. Especially, decorated with colorful porcelain fragment illustrating Buddha’s legendaries and natural scenery, all gates attract people at the very first step. Having a glimpse at the whole pagoda, people can realize an impressive structure which is created by many elements from the Renaissance period, Romanesque style, French decorative flowers and Japanese enameled tile which bears both Asian and European architecture.

Inside the pagoda set 60 valuable statues which are made from copper, wood and porcelain. The outstanding set of collection is the 18 Arhats whose material is jackfruit tree wood. What an amazing wood carving work made by a numerous artist in 1907! Besides, there is another dignified set of statues of Amitabha Holy Trinity engraved in bronze. The pagoda is much more highlighted by wonderful surroundings with ornamental trees, ancient trees, etc. On the right of the pagoda is a lotus pond making a peaceful atmosphere for people to relax and refresh their mind. This is the ideal place for everyone to make the best spirit and holy pray for a happy life. Strikingly, the statues of Buddha, Bodhisattva and many ancient tower monks are set around the pagoda and decorated with elaborately engraved flagstone.
