From Ha Giang city center, along National Highway 2 and Highway 177 about more than 100km, Hoang Su Phi District locates here. Situated at 1,500 meters above sea level, the atmosphere is always fresh and cool all year round. This belongs to Dong Van Plateau but land is more fertile than Dong Van and Meo Vac. Despite this, the terrain of Hoang Su Phi is still very complex, severely divided by a system of high and medium mountains, lower part heads toward two rivers, which are Chay River and the Silver River.

With a total area of about 760 hectares, Hoang Su Phi terraced fields are mainly located in Ban Phung, Ban Luoc, San Sa Ho, Ho Thau, Thong Nguyen, Nam Ty Villages and scatter in 19 other communes in the district. From narrow valleys to low hills and uphill to high mountains, the road to Ha Giang “terraced fields” is a remarkable challenge for traveling drivers. However, many visitors still choose motorbike as a means of transport to get to Hoang Su Phi. They drive by themselves and freely choose where to go so that they can enjoy all the beauty of nature here.

In Hoang Su Phi, harvest season of golden ripening rice is usually around September, October each year. At that time, the color of young green rice turned to brilliant gold. From the center of Ban Phung Commune, tourist can view amazing panorama of terraced fields, stretching from village to village, from one mountain to another, stretching down the stream. Seen from above of terraced field, they look like green or yellow silk flaping in the wind from the top to the bottom of the mountain.
