How to get Mai Chau from Hanoi


The number one transport we would recommend is bus which is strongly favored by the local to move between Hanoi and Mai Chau. You can easily catch a bus at My Dinh bus station (Hanoi) to Mai Chau bus station with an expense of US$4-6 per person. It takes about 3 hours to reach Mai Chau from Hanoi. There is more than one type of bus, typically, 30-seat bus, 44-seat sleeping bus or 9-seat limousine picking up from the Old Quarter of Hanoi with the cost of US$10 one way.


The route from Hanoi to Mai Chau is about 160km long. And travelling by motorbike promises to bring you more experiences. You will have to ride 60km from Hanoi to Hoa Binh city then another 60km from Hoa Binh to Mai Chau. There are picturesque scenes along the route from Hoa Binh to Mai Chau, especially when you pass Doc Cun and Thung Khe hills where you rest and have snacks. However, you should be cautious while travelling through Thung Khe hills as your view could be limited by the heavy fog during the winter and spring time. There are traffic signs along way so you should carefully watch.
